Durability Test: Fetch the Dolphin 99EX!

A picture, a thousand words … or a video? I’ve written thousands of words and will undoubtedly write thousands more about the remarkable durability of Honeywell barcode scanners and mobile computers. But, if a single picture is worth a thousand words, what can we learn from a 1-minute 24-second video? Rather than take my word (or thousand words) for it, check it out for yourself.

What you’ll find is a Labrador Retriever whose new favorite toy is a Honeywell Dolphin 99EX mobile computer. Does the 99EX stand up to the “fetch it; good boy” test when repeated again and again and again? Yeah, it does. Whether the 99EX is thrown in a long arc to land on a grass-covered lawn, or tossed high to bounce on a paved patio, it is retrieved by the faithful Lab in full working order, ready to scan, calculate and communicate.

This single-act screenplay stars only three characters: The Dog, an engagingly exuberant Black Lab; The Throw Toy, played by the ever-ready Dolphin 99EX, and The Guy, played by … well … some guy. Of course, as with all films that include a dog, the Lab steals the show, while the 99EX just does what the 99 EX was designed to do: take a licking (literally!) and keep on working.

Those of us who are familiar with the 99EX will not be surprised that it passed this demonstration of durability; it’s IP67-rated to withstand numerous 6-foot drops to concrete and thousands of 1-meter tumbles. Of course, those specs might seem ridiculously conservative when you see it in action with dog and master. I give the video and the 99EX a 5-star rating!
